The Funny Thing About Senior Portraits is...

They are Not Really for the Senior!

We may call them “senior portraits,” because they capture that special moment in their lives, but the reality is...few of the seniors we photograph will have a portrait of themselves on their wall, or even on their desk. However, you will. The grandparents, aunts and uncles, very close family friends, and anyone else who had a role in watching your senior grow up will want to remember this time in their life.

This is the last opportunity for you to have your “child” photographed professionally. For many families, these are the only professional photographs they will have of their child. These are the photographs you will look at long after they have left the nest and started their own families.

You want something that will always remind you of just who they were, and just what your life was like when they were at home. You will want something that says, “Oh, that is so him/her,” every time that you see it.

Many young people think that they will be happy with a senior snapshot or facebook style photograph for their yearbook picture. These can be funky, strange, and great for the moment, but do they provide a long lasting memory? Is that timeless? No. Facebook photos change daily or weekly. They are not long lasting keepsakes.

2011 High School Seniors:
Who wants to feel like a model for a day?

Are you looking for exciting high school senior pictures? Do you want them to be fashionable, chic and cool? Do you want to make yourself, your parents and more importantly your friends - go "WOW"? If you do, then we could be the right photographer for you!

We are not the school photographer. You know who they are, "the school photo studio that everybody else thinks they have to go to." The studio that puts everyone against the same background or steps outside and leans you against the same tree as everyone else. That's definitely not us!

We are small, "boutique" photographers that differentiate ourselves from them by offering our clients a personalized photo shoot - not those quick 10 minute sessions you are rushed through.
Our style is more of a "modeling, fashion-based" approach to senior pictures than the typical contract studio that has to photograph thousands of seniors and can't spend the time doing any variety. Of course with us you'll get plenty of awesome traditional poses, but once we're done with those, it is time to make a statement... to be the real you... and show your model side in front of the camera! Of course, we do great things with non-model types too!

You can't be told where to go for your Senior Portraits.

So, why settle for the same old, ordinary school pictures that you've had taken since first grade? With our Classic or Traditional Sessions, you will have multiple outfit changes, time to touch-up your make-up, time to change your hair style (in case you want pictures with your hair up, down, etc.), in-studio and outdoor images, creative poses to highlight hobbies and extra-curricular activities like sports or band, and much more. Of course you will end up with a huge number of images to choose from and get to work with Bob one-on-one for your entire shoot. Here are a couple of our recently graduated First Footsteps children.

Your child can be part of our First Footsteps Program too. This program lasts during the entire first year of your child's life. You can have up to 6 sessions throughout the first year, or you can just chose to have your child photographed at 4, 8, and 12 months. At the end of the 4, 8, and 12 months, each family receives their own framed panel with a portrait from each session (framed by Donna at Creative Picture Framing, www.creativepictureframing.com), which is ready for the family to enjoy.

I wanted to thank you both for an absolutely wonderful experience! Emily was immediately put as ease by Bob's somewhat "quirky" sense of humor. Putting a 17 year old girl at ease is not always easy to do. Although spending 3 hours in from of the camera and having it all about "you" is right up the alley of a teenage girl.

When I walked in for the appointment today I told Kimberly that I was very nervous. I had no idea how we were going to narrow down the choices. I knew by the few shots you showed me during the photo shoot that there were going to many great choices. Well I was right! Now I know that I am her mother and that I think that she is beautiful, but... you captured the true essence of our daughter.

If Bob did a good job of putting Emily at ease then, Kimberly you did the same with me. Kimberly you helped me feel so good about the choices we made. Your approach was just right. Not at all pressured and careful to guide us in what we really wanted.

A "Quaking" Good Time

This past weekend, we were heading to Buffalo for a mini conference with some Western New York friends on a private Piper Cherokee VI, however the weather did not cooperate with us. So, instead we headed to Block Island, Rhode Island to photograph a family of ducklings... they weren't very cooperative either! It's great to get out of the studio for some fun adventures, especially when you get to fly a plane!

1. I HAVE to use the school's yearbook photographer - WRONG! The school may suggest that you be photographed by their recommended photographer, but all you have to do is have a yearbook head shot done by them. Have your real senior portraits done where ever you want to. It is your choice!

2. Senior portraits are expensive - Not true. Although many clients love their photos and will spend a lot on them, not every client will. You may choose to spend as little as $80 from our al-a-carte pricing, or save a lot of money by choosing our all inclusive specials. The choice is yours.

3. We charge extra for everything - Nope! While some studios may charge extra for bringing your car or being photographed outside, everything is included in your session at Vaugh Photography.

4.My relative/friend can take my senior portraits - OK, but let us assure you that it takes so much more than just owning a camera to be a photographer. We have had years of training. By using proper lighting and posing techniques, we know exactly how to make you look your best.

5. You make everyone look good! - Alright you got us on that one. That is our job. To make you look your best.
